Hurricane prep: generator interlocks & whole-home surge protection
Run selected circuits safely from a portable generator when the power's out — and protect your AC, pool automation and appliances from surges.
What we do
Hurricane season means power outages. A generator interlock lets you safely run selected circuits in your home from a portable generator. A listed interlock kit mounts on your panel and mechanically prevents the main breaker and the generator breaker from being on at the same time. That protects utility line workers and your equipment from dangerous backfeed. We install the interlock and a dedicated generator breaker, plus an outdoor power inlet box so you can plug the generator in from outside with a proper cord.
- Listed generator interlock kit on your panel
- Interlock kit and outdoor inlet box included; generator breaker included or relocated (any additional breakers quoted as parts).
- Guidance on which loads your generator can realistically handle
- Soft starts for an AC or well pump you want to run on a portable generator
- Whole-home surge protective device (SPD) at the main panel

Whole-home surge protection
Florida leads the country in lightning, and utility switching and storms can send surges through your wiring. Those surges can damage AC equipment, pool automation, appliances and electronics.
A whole-home surge protective device (SPD) installs at your main panel and helps protect everything downstream. We commonly install Square D whole-home units rated at 50kA. It's one of the most popular add-ons to panel upgrades, EV charger installs and pool work, because it protects the equipment you just invested in. We confirm the right SPD for your panel brand and install it with short, proper leads so it works as designed.
Point-of-use surge strips are still a good idea for sensitive electronics. Ask us about adding whole-home protection on your next service call.

Common questions
What is a generator interlock?
A listed kit that mounts on your panel and mechanically prevents the main breaker and generator breaker from being on at the same time, so you can't backfeed the utility lines.
What does whole-home surge protection do?

Do I still need surge strips?
Point-of-use surge strips are still a good idea for sensitive electronics. They work alongside whole-home protection.
