Sarasota electrician FAQ
Quick answers about estimates, licensing, pool & spa work, EV chargers, hurricane prep and more.
General
Are you licensed?
Yes. Coastal Electric SRQ LLC is a State of Florida Certified Electrical Contractor, License EC13012644.
What areas do you serve?
Sarasota County and nearby Manatee County communities: City of Sarasota, Venice, North Port, Lakewood Ranch, Bradenton, Osprey, Nokomis, Myakka City, and Longboat, Lido, Siesta, Casey and Manasota Keys. See service areas.
What are your hours?
Monday–Friday 7 AM–7 PM. Closed Saturday and Sunday.
Can I text instead of calling?
Yes — and it's often faster. Text photos of your project to (941) 500-5019 and we can give you a quicker, more accurate quote.
What photos should I text for a quote?
Your electrical panel with the door open, a wider shot showing where the work goes, and the equipment label or model number if there is one. Please don't include people, house numbers or license plates.
Can I book online?
Not at the moment — call or text and we'll schedule you directly. Invoices are sent by email with an online payment link.
Do you work for HOAs, condo associations and businesses?
Yes. Call or text (941) 500-5019. See HOA, condo & commercial.
Pool & Spa Electrical
Does a new pool pump need GFCI protection?
Yes — when a pool pump is replaced, code requires upgrading to GFCI protection. We include it when we wire the new pump.
Do you install pool heat pumps?
Yes. We install GulfStream pool heat pumps and diagnose and repair heat pump power and control problems. See also heat pump & AC electrical.
Can you wire my Pentair automation system?
Yes — automation wiring, including Pentair panels, is regular work for us.
Do you work with pool contractors?
Yes. We're the electrical trade partner for local pool contractors on new builds and equipment changes.
Heat Pump & AC Electrical
My AC disconnect is rusted. Is that a problem?
Yes — outdoor disconnects take a beating here. We replace rusted or failing disconnects and check the circuit feeding the unit.
What should I text for a quote?
A photo of the unit's data plate and a photo of the disconnect. Call or text (941) 500-5019.
Panel & Service Upgrades
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Text us photos of your panel with the cover on, plus the label. We'll explain your options.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. We pull the required permit, coordinate with the utility when needed, and schedule the inspection.
Do you upgrade to 200 amps?
Yes — 200-amp service upgrades are a common job for us.
EV Chargers
Hardwired charger or a 240V outlet — which is better?
Both work. A hardwired wall charger (like a Tesla wall connector) is tidy; a 240V receptacle such as a NEMA 14-50 lets you use the charger that came with your car. We'll help you choose.
Will my panel handle an EV charger?
We check before installing. If there isn't room, options include a load calculation, a smaller charger setting or a panel upgrade.
Do you install 240V outlets for RVs or workshops?
Yes.
Generator Interlocks & Surge Protection
What is a generator interlock?
A listed kit that mounts on your panel and mechanically prevents the main breaker and generator breaker from being on at the same time, so you can't backfeed the utility lines.
What does whole-home surge protection do?
A whole-home SPD installs at your main panel and helps protect everything downstream — AC equipment, pool automation, appliances and electronics.
Do I still need surge strips?
Point-of-use surge strips are still a good idea for sensitive electronics. They work alongside whole-home protection.
HOA, Commercial & Condo
Can you work directly with our property manager?
Yes. Just tell us who the contact person is when you call or text.
Do you handle community pools and amenities?
Yes — pool and amenity electrical is core work for us.
Do you pull permits?
Yes. Permits are pulled and inspections scheduled.
Mobile Home & RV Pedestals
Can you replace the pedestal at my mobile home?
Yes. We repair or replace mobile and manufactured home pedestals, including meter pedestals, and the feeder to the home. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection. If the meter has to come out, the utility pulls and resets it; we coordinate that with them.
Who owns the pedestal in a mobile home park?
It depends on the park. The park's prospectus or rules say who provides and maintains the electrical equipment on each lot. Some parks own the pedestals; in others, each homeowner does. If you're not sure, ask the park office.
I live in a mobile-home park. Can you work on the park's pedestal?
Yes. We coordinate with park or community management, including when the park owns the pedestals. Tell us who the park or community manager is when you call or text.
Do I need a permit?
Yes. We pull the electrical permit and schedule the inspection.
Who pulls the meter?
The utility. Only the utility removes and resets the meter; we coordinate the timing with them, and they reconnect once the inspection passes.
Does my RV need a 30-amp or 50-amp outlet?
Check the plug on your RV's power cord. A 30-amp RV plug has three prongs and runs on 120 volts (TT-30). A 50-amp plug has four prongs and runs on 120/240 volts (NEMA 14-50). Text us a photo of the plug and we'll tell you which one you need.
Can I use a dryer outlet for my RV?
No, not safely as a plug-in. A dryer outlet is a 240-volt circuit wired for a dryer. A 30-amp RV runs on 120 volts, and a mismatched adapter can send 240 volts into the RV and damage it. A 50-amp RV plug needs a proper 50-amp RV outlet (NEMA 14-50) on its own correctly sized circuit. We install the right outlet for your RV.
Lighting
Can you add recessed lights to an existing ceiling?
Yes — including multi-level homes where access takes some creativity.
Do you install ceiling fans and smart switches?
Yes — ceiling fans, lighting controls and smart switches.
